Common Names: Ipe, Brazilian Walnut, Ironwood

Origin: Native to Central and South America, primarily Brazil, Colombia, and Bolivia.

Habitat: Tropical forests, often growing in well-drained soils.

Modulus of Elasticity (Stiffness): ~2,010,000 psi

Compression Strength: ~8,600 psi

Impact Resistance: Very high, making it ideal for heavy-use surfaces.

Cutting & Machining: Difficult due to density; blunts tools quickly. Pre-drilling screws is recommended.

Sanding: Can be labor-intensive; produces a smooth, polished surface once done.

Finishing: Accepts stains, oils, and sealers well. Naturally oily, which can enhance finish durability.

Fastening: Nails and screws may require pilot holes; hidden fasteners are often preferred for decking.

Sustainability: Ipe is slow-growing and sometimes harvested unsustainably. Look for FSC-certified sources.

Carbon Footprint: Imported Ipe has a higher carbon footprint due to transport from South America.

Finishing: Optional UV-protective oils or sealers to maintain original color.

Aging: Will naturally weather to a silver-gray patina if left untreated outdoors

WPC (Wood Plastic Composite): Made by combining wood fibers or wood flour with thermoplastic polymers (like PE, PP, or PVC) and often additives such as UV stabilizers, anti-fungal agents, and colorants.

Characteristics of Composition:

Texture: Can mimic natural wood grains with realistic finishes.

Colors: Available in shades of brown, grey, and sometimes darker or lighter tones.

Finish: Smooth, grooved, or embossed finishes for slip resistance and aesthetics.

Tile Patterns: Interlocking squares or rectangular tiles, often with a modular design for easy layout changes.

Typical tile size: 300 mm × 300 mm, 400 mm × 400 mm, or 500 mm × 500 mm.

Thickness: Usually 20 mm – 30 mm.

Thickness contributes to strength, weight, and load-bearing capacity.

Modular & Interlocking System:
Tiles snap together without nails or adhesives.

Substrate Compatibility: Can be installed over concrete, existing decks, rooftops, or compacted soil.

Drainage Support: Many tiles have built-in bases with ventilation channels to allow water drainage and air circulation, preventing water pooling.
