1. Structure and Composition
A carpet tile usually consists of four key layers:
Pile or Face Fiber:
This is the top layer made from materials such as nylon, polypropylene, polyester, or wool.
It provides texture, color, and comfort underfoot.
Fibers can be loop pile, cut pile, or a combination (cut and loop) depending on the desired appearance and performance.
Primary Backing:
The first backing layer that holds the carpet fibers in place.
Often made of woven or nonwoven polypropylene.
Secondary Backing / Cushion Layer:
Provides dimensional stability and resilience.
May include PVC (vinyl), bitumen, polyurethane, or thermoplastic materials.
Adhesive or Fiberglass Reinforcement:
Ensures shape retention and prevents curling or shrinkage.
Some premium tiles have fiberglass reinforcement for added stability.
