Exterior HPL (High Pressure Laminate) Sheet is a durable, weather-resistant decorative cladding material manufactured by compressing multiple layers of kraft paper impregnated with phenolic resin and a decorative paper layer impregnated with melamine resin under high pressure and temperature.

It is specially engineered for external façade applications where resistance to sunlight, rain, humidity, and temperature variation is required.

Exterior HPL sheets are manufactured by:

1. Layering kraft papers saturated with phenolic resin

2. Adding decorative paper layer with UV-resistant melamine resin

3. Pressing under:

   • High Pressure: ~70–100 bar

   • High Temperature: ~120–150°C

4. Cooling and surface finishing (matte, gloss, textured, woodgrain, stone finish, etc.)

HPL (High-Pressure Laminate) is a durable decorative surfacing material made by compressing layers of kraft paper and decorative paper impregnated with thermosetting resins under high heat and high pressure.
It is widely used for interior and exterior applications due to its strength, abrasion resistance, and aesthetic finish.
Composition of HPL Sheet
An HPL sheet is typically made of three main components:
a. Overlay (Protective Layer)
Transparent, wear-resistant layer.
Made of melamine-formaldehyde resin.
Provides scratch, heat, stain, and chemical resistance.
b. Decor Paper
Printed or solid-colored paper impregnated with melamine resin.
This layer determines the appearance, including:
Wood grain
Stone/marble look
Solid colors
Abstract patterns
Metallic designs
c. Kraft Paper Core
Multiple layers (usually 6–20 layers) of brown kraft paper.
Impregnated with phenolic resin.
Forms the structural strength of the sheet.
3. Manufacturing Process (HPL Production)
HPL is produced using the High-Pressure Lamination process:
Impregnation
Kraft paper is soaked in phenolic resin.
Decor paper is soaked in melamine resin.
Drying & Stacking
Papers are dried and stacked in sequence:
Overlay → Decor paper → Kraft papers.
Pressing
Stack is pressed under:
Pressure: 70–100 bar
Temperature: 125–150C
Time: 30–60 minutes
Resins cure and bond to form a single rigid laminate.
Cooling & Finishing
Sheets cool down and are trimmed to standard sizes.
